HEAR MY TRUE STORY KAMPALA
Life Writes the best Stories
Hear My True Story Kampala is a joint project of Hear My True Story and Omuti Kreativ. In this project, participants are trained in various storytelling skills and learn how to tell their own stories. In this project, we present true stories and conversations about real life experiences with non-storytellers and storytellers from Uganda. You can listen to these stories through our partner's podcast: Hear My Real Story
Due to Covid 19 closures that hindered live performances in Uganda, many Ugandan storytellers and non-storytellers were unable to continue their performances. Because of this, omuti Kreativ decided to partner with independent podcaster and storyteller Otako to launch the first-ever Hear My True Story Kampala project in Uganda. As an organization dedicated to supporting young people in the creative industries, five participants were selected to take part in a series of online and real-life workshops led and facilitated by Kayendeke Zoey Patricia, a Ugandan folklore storyteller known as #Zoeythestoryteller, poet, musician and theater maker for children and adults.
Each storyteller wrote and performed their own stories, which were streamed on the Hear My True Story podcast on various podcasting platforms, and shared their real lives as storytellers in Uganda in conversation with the podcast's host.
We see every challenge as an opportunity, and our Economic Development initiative helps Omuti Kreativ ensure that those we serve are better prepared to persevere in the unique situations they find themselves in.
